Service Description: | Pear Tree is a mainstream school based in the Normanton area of Derby. Our school accomodates 270 children, made up of 3 classes per year group.
Pear Tree works well to liaise with nursery and junior settings to ensure children have a smooth transition when entering and exiting our school setting. IDENTIFICATION, ASSESSMENT AND PROVISION At Pear Tree Infant School, we have adopted a whole school approach to SEND policy and practice. Pupils identified as having SEND are, as far as practicable, fully integrated into mainstream classes. Every effort is made to ensure that they have full access to the learning curriculum and are integrated into all aspects of the school. The SEND Code of Practice 2014 makes it clear that all teachers are teachers of pupils with special educational needs.
All teachers are responsible for identifying pupils with SEND and, in collaboration with the SENCO, will ensure that these pupils requiring different or additional support are identified at an early stage. Pupils with SEND are identified by using the Derby City Council criteria of Cognition and Learning, Communication and Interaction, Sensory and Physical and Social and Emotional Mental Health Difficulties. In addition to this we have an “open door” policy for parents and teachers to contact the SENCO with any concerns. Staff may alert the SNCO to any concerns by completing a SEND concern form at any time during the School year. |
