Service Description
Service Description:A mainstream Community Primary School with 208 pupils on roll from ages 3 - 11.
Set within a housing estate with our main access off the road. There is a large flat playground with a grassy bank which leads to our field. We do not have any parking for parents.
We have 8 classrooms, a library, computer suite and nurture room. Most of the classrooms have disabled access. We have 2 disabled toilets, one of which has hoisting facilities and changing table.
Admissions come through Derby City central admissions.
We are an inclusive school and will aim to make any arrangements needed for pupils living in our catchment area to be fully included in our school.
We differentiate teaching and learning tasks to suit the needs of the learner. Risk assessments will be written and shared with parents when they are needed and we can write a personal evacuation plan if that is required. We successfully support pupils with additional needs at Meadow Farm Primary School and ensure they are included in appropriate extracurricular activities. We work closely with Local Authority Specialist Teachers from STePS where a child has a specific need such as an impairment or autism. We also work with the Educational Psychologists when their advice is needed and Speech and Language Therapists. Our school motto is 'confident, caring and accomplished children'.
The children are identified as having Special Educational Needs if their progress has slowed or stopped and the interventions and resources put in place do not enable improvement. Once this occurs we have specific target setting plans which help support their development and accelerate progress. At this point the child is listed on a 'SEND register' for these pupils. Parents will be invited to discuss and review these targets and support three times a year with the class teacher.
Our school SENCO coordinates support for children with additional needs in school. In addition to this a number of teaching assistants have had training on supporting children with additional needs. Our school has two designated autism champions. Some of our teaching assistants are trained to use a mobile hoist which is available in school.
Our Learning Mentor works closely with families and pupils to ensure their needs are met and appropriate support is put in place. In our school we have a small nurture provision.
We make arrangements for nursery visits and for transition to our reception class.
We liaise with the relevant secondary schools which children move on to. This may include extra visits for those pupils who require it.
We are inclusive of SEND needs within our school. To find out how we can support childrens needs please read our SEND accesibility pland and policies on our webpage http://www.meadowfarmschool.co.uk/special-educational-needs-sen/
