Service Description

Service Description:
Mainstream Community Primary School and Nursery.
530 pupils plus 50 place nursery (100 part-time nursery pupils).
South Derby location.
The school is comprised of two main buildings and two annex buildings.
Large playing field to the rear of the site.

On-going working with City of Derby Academy.
Liaison with any other secondary school that pupils transfer to.
Referring to the ‘SEND code of practice: 0-25’ 2014, a child has SEN ‘where their learning difficulty or disability calls for special educational provision, that is provision different from or additional to that normally available to pupils of the same age’.
Class teachers make regular assessments of progress for all children. From this, the school is able to identify children making less than expected progress given their age and individual circumstances. Other factors including attendance, punctuality and health are considered. Consideration is also given to the particular circumstances of students, for example those who are in care and/or eligible for the Pupil Premium.
When deciding whether to make special educational provision, a meeting will be arranged between the parents/carers, SENCo, class teacher and any other relevant members of staff to consider all the information gathered from within the school.
Parents/carers will be notified of the meeting in person (or by a telephone call/letter if the class teacher/SENCo cannot see them in person, e.g. if the parent does not bring or collect the child from school) when the following will be discussed:
- the child’s areas of strengths and difficulties
- any parent/carer concerns
- planning for additional support the child will receive
- any referrals to outside professionals to support the child’s learning.
