Service Description

Service Description:
We are an inner city, mainstream, community Infant and Nursery school.
We currently have 149 pupils on roll and a 30 place nursery. We have a split level Victorian building with a small Victorian yard adjacent to the Arboretum Park. We have three upstairs classrooms and three downstairs classrooms. Approximately 96% of our pupils have English as an Additional Language. On Thursday mornings we run a popular stay and play toddler group called Rosehlll's Parent and Toddler Group, for children up to the age of 3.

We have a coordinated transition plan where we liaise closely with staff across other junior schools.

We make arrangements to visit local nurseries when pupils transition to our Reception class. We have a phased transition for both Nursery and Reception pupils.

In order to meet the learning needs of all pupils key staff collaborate with the SENCO and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to plan personalised provision. They work to meet individual learning needs and to mark work and plan homework effectively.
Where pupils are identified as having special educational needs, the school provides for these additional needs in a variety of ways. The provision for pupils is related specifically to their needs. A provision map records a graduated response to individual.
The range of provision includes:
• QFT – Quality First Teaching for all pupils
• in class support for small groups with an additional teacher or Teaching Assistant (TA)
• small group withdrawal with TA, Learning Mentor (LM).
• individual class support / individual withdrawal
• further differentiation of resources
• homework/learning support club
• MEP tutorials
• Wave 3 interventions (such as colourful semantics, Speech link and much more)
• Deployment of extra staff to work with the pupil
• Provision of alternative learning materials/ special equipment
• Group support
• Provision of additional adult time in devising interventions and monitoring their effectiveness
• Staff development/training to undertake more effective strategies
• Pastoral support from LM and staff to provide nurturing provision such as breakfast clubs, nurture groups, buddy systems and school councils
• Extra-curricular activities and trips for all pupils
• Access to Specialist Teaching and Educational Psychology Service STePS or other support services for advice on strategies, equipment, or staff training

All school staff in the Rosehill Infant and Nursery School have responsibility for pupils with SEND.
