Service Description
Service Description:Springfield Primary School is a mainstream community school with approximately 236 pupils on roll. The school is currently rated by Ofsted as 'good' and has a good reputation within the locality and Local Authority for exceptionally high levels of inclusive practice and for excellent provision for pupils with SEND. Our school motto is: Inspiring Success.
Springfield Enhanced Resource Facility provides enhanced provision for children with communication difficulties such as Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). Children with an Enhanced Resource place belong to one of the ERF’s three classes as well as being a member of one of the school’s mainstream classes. Children have the opportunity to access all the facilities and provision available within the mainstream school and the Enhanced Resource Facility.
The mainstream school has step free access throughout and is all at ground floor level. There is a disabled toilet, walk in shower and a first aid/changing bed. ‘Communication in Print’ is used to produce any visual resources needed to support children with communication difficulties.
The Enhanced Resource Facility has step free access and a disabled toilet. Other facilities include a kitchen, a changing table and a shower. Each classroom within the ERF has a sound field system and there is a sensory room, which the mainstream school can also access.
After school and extra-curricular provision and school visits are accessible to all children, including those with SEND. Extra support and modifications are provided if required. Risk assessments are carried out prior to any off site activity.
Teachers have the highest possible expectations for all pupils. The quality of teaching and learning is good and is reviewed regularly to ensure the highest possible standards are achieved. Teaching and learning tasks are differentiated to suit the needs of the learner and adaptations to curriculum or learning environment may be made to remove barriers to learning. There is an on-going professional development programme throughout the school year which addresses areas of SEND within the school.
The school’s SEND Team work closely with Local Authority Specialist Teachers from STePS, when a child has a specific need such as a Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment or Autism. They also work with the Educational Psychologists when their advice is needed.
Children are identified as having Special Educational Needs if their progress has slowed or stopped and the interventions and resources put in place do not enable improvement. Once this occurs, they have specific target setting plans which help support the child’s development and accelerate progress. At this point the child is listed on an ‘SEND register’ for these pupils. Parents will be invited to discuss and review targets and support three times a year with the class teacher.
The school recognises that transitions can be difficult for pupils with SEND and their families and so take steps to ensure any transition is as smooth as possible. Children are supported when they start or leave school, this includes visits by the staff and pupils, including extra visits for those who require them as well as sharing information with new schools.
Admissions come through Derby City central admissions arrangements.
