About the service

Service Description:
RNIB College Loughborough supports a wide range of students to achieve their goals. All students have an individual learning plan, with targets and goals agreed between themselves and their tutor. Progress is regularly monitored to ensure students achieve their potential.

In-house programmes
Our in-house programmes support people at Foundation Level to Level 1 through our innovative enterprise-led curriculum.

Mainstream courses
The College can also support students to access mainstream courses at Loughborough College.
Supported Internship Programme
Supported Internships are a great way for disabled people to build their experience and move into employment.

Skills development
Literacy and numeracy are taught to all students and accreditation is offered from Entry Level 1 to Level 2. Individual sessions and workshops are available to support students, with skills embedded across all areas of the curriculum.

Students can study uncontracted and contracted braille in individual and small group sessions. Experienced braille users can learn to use braille technology to support further study and employment.

Students can develop their ICT skills within a variety of sessions across the College. Students with sight loss are taught how to use speech and magnification software by our specialist tutors.

Community travel and mobility skills increase confidence and independence, with students working towards individually agreed targets. Training includes personal safety, routes around College and the local community, and training on public transport.

Work placements
Work placements help to develop confidence, together with communication, social and work-related skills. They help to prepare students for their future, providing valuable preparation for employment, supported employment, voluntary work or community access.
All students will participate in work placements as part of their programme but the type of role and amount of time spent on placement varies depending on students' goals and aspirations.

All students receive support from our Transitions Team to prepare for their future, with advice and guidance that is appropriate to their interests, abilities and aspirations.
