Monthly meetings:
We have a guest speaker at our regular monthly meetings on the second Monday of each month from 2.30 PM to 4.30 PM (except June and December). We meet at The Friends Meeting House, St. Helens Street, Derby DE1 3GY, starting with general news items, followed by our guest speaker. We select a wide variety of speakers to cater for all tastes, including some of a medical nature. We also have quizzes and demonstrations. Refreshments are served at the end of each meeting.
Lunches.
Twice a year, at Christmas and in the Spring, we have a formal sit down lunch. These are very popular and require booking in advance. Details are announced through our monthly Newsletter.
We also hold informal lunches at locations recommended by our members. Again, these are advertised within our Newsletter. These lunches are popular due to the variety of locations visited, often great value with 2 for 1, so just turn up and enjoy.
Walks.
Organised walks are led by members of Take Heart (Derby)s experienced walkers. We walk along some of the more historic walks amongst some of the most beautiful of Derbyshire’s villages and pathways. They take place between April and October. These walks could include inclines and an occasional style, but are generally on level ground. Some are suitable for children in push chairs, for disabled, a gentle stroll around some of Derbyshire’s pleasant landscapes and for those wishing to bring the dog. Check with the walk supervisor first. Details are announced in our monthly Newsletter.
Coffee mornings.
Our coffee mornings are held on the last Tuesday (not December) of each month from 10.30am to 11.30am at The Cube cafe/bar, Chapel Street, Derby (directly opposite the Chapel Street car park, where parking is free for three hours for blue badge holders). There is a ramped entrance and the access doors are all operated automatically.
Singing for Fun
Singing is recognised as a wonderful way to lift spirits, for the signer and the listener. We meet on Fridays at St John’s Methodist Church Hall (adjacent to Park Farm), Blenheim Way, Allestree, Derby DE22 2PQ from 10.00 AM until 12 noon. There is fee parking and we break for refreshments. You do not need to be able to sing but just come to have some fun.
Swimming.
The heated pool at Queens Leisure Centre, Cathedral Road, Derby is reserved for Take Heart (Derby) members and their carers only. This is held every Wednesday from 3.15pm to 4pm and represents a wonderful opportunity of keeping fit in a private session, achieving great cardiovascular exercise, reducing stress and weight. See you there.
