Support group meeting are the core of what the Tegan’s Butterfiles in Paradise group do.
Why not come along to one of our group meetings? All family members and friends are welcome to come along too. And best of all it’s free to attend.
Currently we meet once a month at Derwent Primary School, St Mark’s Road, Chaddesden, Derby. Between 10am -11.30am.
On your first visit you will receive a welcome pack, which includes information about the group, contact information for the group leaders as well as contacts you might find useful. The packs also contain two Makaton Books, kindly donated by Down Syndrome Derby to help develop your basic Makaton.
The format of the meetings is very simple:
On arrival you will be asked to sign you, your child and any other visitors in. You are then free to enjoy, whichever activity you like with your child. You may want to sit and chat with other parents / carers whilst your little ones play. Please bear in mind the children remain your responsibility. We try to have a range of toys available, to cover from baby to toddler, as well as books and sensory toys.
We have ‘themes’ to our sessions, these include Easter, messy play, musical, creative and much more. If there is something you would like to explore please don’t be shy and just say.
We have a break for refreshments in the kitchen area. Hot drinks, juice and biscuits for the adults and soft crisps, yoghurt, carrot sticks and cucumber sticks for the little ones. You are welcome to bring your own snack if you wish. Refreshments are provided free thanks to the generosity of one of our Committee Members. We ask that for Children’s safety hot drinks are not taken into the main play area.
Whilst everyone enjoys snack time, the toys are cleared and cleaned and the room set up for “singing time’ . The singing sessions are run with the help of pictorial song cards and children are encouraged to choose a song to sing. Our singing sessions also provide a perfect opportunity to practice some basic Makaton. During our December Meeting we have a special visitor with presents for all the children, including siblings.
We look forward to welcoming you to one of our meetings….
